Update #1 : "Dropping" the First Patch!

That's right, just what it says on the tin, this is the first update since the game-jam submission where I clean up bugs and add in more of the quintessential gameplay features I had to drop or didn't have time to make!

For a mostly exhaustive list of new features:

  • You can now drop items from your inventory. Yes. Highlight the item and press "Q". Yes the title is a pun based on this. No I have no regrets.
  • The whole build system has been redone and is no longer a hardcoded mess. It is now a dynamic mess that lets you also build the all-new STONE WALLS along with two types of workshop, a campfire and a stone masons'.
This also includes T and X corner pieces on both the wood and stone walls, and a redone grid snap so the workshops can snap to a finer grid than the walls can.
  • "Workshops" add new recipies to your crafting window if you open the crafting window while standing next to them, or in them in the case of the stone masons'.
  • Mining out Stone and Sandstone walls now drop items, ore would also drop items if the world was spawning any, but there are still problems with tile permanence I need to sort first.
  • Lots of background work including a dynamic blueprint and "world objects" system that means that trees, rocks etc now have permanence, amongst other things such as enabling the features above. This also makes adding in new buildings, environment bits etc much easier and more flexible.
  • A small underlying UI refactor, should make adding more easier, and should also simply work a little nicer as well.

For bug fixes:

  • The delightful item duplication glitch when you try to pick something up with a full inventory, that's gone. As delightful as it is to vomit up a endless quantity of one-stack small stones.
  • Hopefully the phenomenally irritating audio pop when the first music kicks in should be dead, if anyone ever experienced that. It better.

As for the future of this game, I'd like to keep working on it, but now these features are out I'll be having a bit of a think about how I'd like to go about that, what if anything else would I like the game to become and how I'd like to allocate my time to do that.

All that said, if you're keeping your eye on this little game I hope you enjoy the update!
