GameJam over, Patch #1 Goes Live!


First update now that judging is complete!
I am pleased to announce that all of the key features I wanted in, in the first place, are now in!

All in all this represents about 14 days work, which I'm rather happy with.

Moving forward I have plans for revamping some of the core systems to support future features I'm looking to put in, but for now hopefully this'll help bring this project forward  to a point where it is a *bit* less dodgy!

Major Fixes/Additions

  •  Finished and fixed Inventory and Crafting UI:
    Both now allow you to view your inventory and craft, respectively.
  • Added in Hunger that builds over time:
    If your hunger grows high it will also reduce your maximum move speed more and more as you slowly starve.
  • Added placeable Voxel/Block items:
    Move these onto your Equipment bar and you can place these blocks with a left click.
    Left click with empty hands to remove a voxel.
  • Added edible items:
    Place these (yams) on your Equipment bar, scroll until they are selected and left click to eat them to sate your hunger.
  • Added growing and harvestable plants:
    Primitive for now, but the world generates with a certain number of yams sprinked about, find them and gather them to survive, but be careful not to collect them while they're too small to restore much hunger.
  • Trees are now officially plants, and can grow but are currently disabled from harvesting.
  • Added craftable and placable "Structures", just one for now in the "campfire" but the framework is there to add onto.
  • Inventories, player position and "world objects" (trees, plants, campfires) are now also saved when saving the game

Minor Fixes:

  • Fixed sky light contribution only updating on game pause.
  • Fixed/Added mousewheel scrolling through Player Equipment/HotBar
  • Fixed hotbar cutting off the top and bottom of the "highlighed item" graphic on the hotbar


Missing Features and Known Bugs

  • You still can't starve *to death* but trust me, you don't want to try walking around with a nearly full hunger bar!
  • Saving the game doesn't save campfires. Absolute pain in the butt but it should be fixed by deeper rewriting/restructuring of the game that I've got planned anyway.
